Species imperilment and spatial patterns of development in the United States.

Conservation biologists and others hypothesize that humankind's "ecological footprint" is affected not only by the sheer intensity of human activity but also by its spatial arrangement. We used a multivariate statistical model and state-level data to evaluate correlations between species imperilment and the level and spatial distribution of human settlement and infrastructure development in the...

Applicability of research findings to conservation policy.

Baldwin et al. (2007 [this issue]) raise a number of concerns about our efforts to discern the independent effects of human activity levels and distributions on biodiversity (Brown & Laband 2006). Their central point of contention seems to be that we failed to acknowledge properly in our work that “land-use change due to sprawl is a leading threat to biological diversity in the United States.” ...

Fitting of Species Frequency Distribution Models in Woody Societies in Rangelands of Gouradarah, Gechigiran Ahar

One of the important goals of natural resource management is to conserve plant diversity in the ecosystem so that sites are more productive and more ecologically stable at the various situations. Different diversity indices have been presented to study the species status of natural ecosystems. One of these indicators is the use of empirical distribution models that each of these models ind...

The relationship of spawning mode tb- conservation of North American minnows (Cyprinidae)

Approximately 20% of North American minnows are considered imperiled. The factors responsible for imperilment in this group are complex, but the relationship of spawning mode to conservation of North American minnows has not been explored. 1 provide a summary of the spawning modes of imperiled North American minnows, discuss patterns between these modes and conservation status, and predict the ...
